Work-Life-Balance-1024x708Do you feel irritable, tired and unmotivated when it comes to your life and work?

Do you lack inspiration, feel overwhelmed, and find yourself procrastinating when you try to complete projects?

Do you find yourself without joy, vision and purpose in your daily life and work routines?

You may be experiencing burn out, the physical and emotional draining of a person’s reserves surrounding their work stress as well as work values.  If the overload is too high and you are not able to meet yours or others’ expectations, then your stress level increases and you no longer can work efficiently.  Secondly, if your values are being challenged by your work you will become very unhappy with your work, and loose incentive.  Everything in your life will in turn have that wonky feeling of being out of balance.

You can do something about this yuckiness that can turn your ship around! Here are some tips for restoring work & life balance…

Take Time to Assess Your Life/Work

If this sounds like you, then I encourage you to take a close assessment of your life and your work to see where you are out of balance. There is something you can do about this yuckiness that can turn your ship around!

Get Rid of Distractions

First do a quick evaluation of what you are tolerating and what you are no longer tolerating.  By slowly getting rid of the “toleration” list and celebrating the “no longer tolerating” list you will feel more in control in your life. This leads to illuminating distractions that keep getting in the way of finding freedom and joy.

What Life/Work Areas are Out of Balance?

Secondly, it is time to assess different areas of your life such as Job/Career, Health, Personal, Spiritual, Recreation, Creativity, Physical Environment, Relationships and Finances. Ask yourself what are your strengths in these areas and what are ways you can improve?  Likely there are some areas that are way off kilter and need to be attended to. Pick out two or three areas to focus on and begin to find small steps in each of them to give you more balance. This strategy alone can bring you into a better realization of what your needs are and how you can take better care of yourself.

Are You Living/Working According to Your Values?

Life is not measured

Thirdly, take a look at your top values in life. Values are those deep down, unique to you, motivating reasons you do what you do. They say what is important to you.  Examples of Values are: Connection, Joy, Hope, Money, Spirituality, Honesty, Wisdom, Recognition, Healing, Creativity, Encouragement, Family, Genuiness, Achievement, Beauty…the list goes on.  Ask yourself what values are the most important to you and if they are being validated in your work and life.  If not, then you have just found a major reason why you feel so out of sorts.  Begin to make small steps to find ways to illuminate things that are getting in the way of your values, and make a commitment to move toward living in resonance with your authentic self.

Bottom Line…

If you want to move toward more freedom, joy and ease in your work and life, you need to be honest with yourself in assessing your distractions, your areas of life, and your values.  This will lead you to becoming more balanced and allow for healing from burn out.
